hey Sachiko, i wanna learn some new words in Japanese if you dont mind. ok, how do you say… ok, hi, bye, thank you, cool,... i need to make a list before i type it up. i ran out of ideas lol. also, i made a new ping pong paddle holding style. i had it for quite some time now. i named it Dagger Style. it’s also nicknamed ‘Stab You Style’ lmao. this hold is pretty much a hand shake style, but you hold the paddle up-side-down. i wanted to name my style something cool so i translated it into Japanese. the translator gave out a lot of results and i chose the ones that sounded cool. i got ‘Tantou Youshiki’. i’m guessing that’s not right (but close). also, what would be ‘Stab You Style’ in Japanese? o.O |
Hi Kon~ Japanese have so many ways of saying those depending on who you say it to and stuff. But here are the most common and formal ways of saying it: Hi is “Konnichiwa” “Dagger style” huh? “Tantou” means “dagger” so yeah I guess it’s a good translation. As for “Stab you style” probably “Sasuzo Style” is better, since we say “Sasuzo!” meaning “I’m gonna stab you!” and we say “Style” for “Style”. (pronounced Sutairu) so how about “Sasuzo Sutairu” although “Tantou youshiki” sounds cooler :D |
tyvm Sachiko! =D i’m gonna try to remember everything i learn in your little class lol. arigato! =) kk, i’m gonna have my style named as “Tantou Youshiki” and have the nickname of “Sasuzo Sutairu”. =) |
i was also wonder what the word were at the end of names like “-sama, -chan, etc”. what are the others? which ones is use in what case? o.O |
hey sorry I haven’t responded to this thread :P “what’s up?” huh?? Grrrr.. you always choose difficult words :D Let’s just say “how are you?” OK? :) You can say “genki?” for friends, and to be polite you can say “o genki desuka?” “no” is easy :D you just say “iie” (sounds like ee yay) “-sama” is used for anybody who you wanna be extremely polite to, like the royal families or customers (yes in japan customers are god!). Now you know Kon that you have to call me “Sachiko-sama!” XD hee hee! “-san” can be used instead of “-sama” on more occasions, like if it’s somebody you don’t know well or to the elderly. Pretty complicated huh?? I actually suck at the polite ways of saying things in Japanese …. and people are usually surprised cause I either sound super friendly or super arrogant XD |
np, Sachiko-sama. =) ok, i’ll try to remember all these. =D wasn’t there also “-kun”? |
That’s it, Kon, and I am Lost John-san. ;-D |
lmao, yep, Lost John-san. xP |
Wow you guys are great students! A+++! Yes Kon, good point! There is also “-kun” which is used only for men – when they are a bit too old to be called “chan” use “kun” :D “-chan” is actually used more for girls :P I didn’t notice it before actually… girls or toddlers. My friends and family still call me “Sa-chan” (short version of Sachiko-chan) but nobody called my brother “takashi-chan” after he reached 10 :D Geez, Japanese is pretty complicated huh?! I have heard some stories that the boss called one of his female co-worker “-chan” and she got really mad… So, I’d say, if not sure, stick to “-san” :D OH! another good word to be used for elderly :D is “-sensei” So Lost John-sensei would work out perfectly too! It’s used mostly for teachers, but the Japanese character literally means “born ahead of us” :) |
Wow after that last post, I had to go back and read the first one because I forgot already which one was what! LoL |
ok Sachiko-chan, i’ll be sure to memorize aaalll this. and so Lost John is now Lost John-sensei and Heathaaa is Heathaaa-chan… what would i be then? lol |
Kon-kun? That sounds funny… :) |
lol, it’s either just Kon or Konpaku-kun. |
hey Sachiko-sensei, to a ‘thank you’ there’s also a ‘you’re welcome’. how do you say “you’re welcome” in, uh, how would you say “Japanese” in… Japanese. |
Konnichiwa Kon-kun, to say “you’re welcome” in Japanese, you can say “dou itashi mashite” wow~ that’s long huh?? You can also say “iie~ ” like “no” in Japanese “ee yay~” kinda mean like “don’t mention it” in this context. So “japanese” as in “japanese language? You say “Nihon go” – Nihon means Japan, and “go” means language. So what about Russian? “Roshia go” :D But English you say “Ei go” since “ei” is the old way of saying “Britain”. Ok, a pop quiz! How do you say 2,345 in Japanese? :D |
oh, you forgot about the post above Heathaaa-chan’s last post. ok, 2345 in Nihon go? easy. it’s “ni sen san byaku yon jyu go”. btw, is 300 “san byaku” or just “byaku”? |
Oh forgot that post :P Shorter version of “konnichiwa” is “kon” :D NO, that was just a joke! Let’s see, I got some slang you can use like “yo!” for men, or “chiwa~ ” or “ui~ssu”. Remember, these are really really not correct Japanese and extremely slangish! :D So know who you are saying it to! There isn’t a formal way to say “konnnichiwa” short I don’t think. What was the other one.. “ok” ei? you can say “ok” :D Yup, that’s a universal language! You got 2345 right! Congrats! A+++! 300 is “san byaku”, you need the “san” before “byaku” or else how am I suppose to know what hyaku it is? ;) |
ok. btw, what does the ”~” mean. any other pop quiz? |
Hey sorry, I was busy a bit :P so when I use ” ~ ” that means I’m stretching the sound. Like “yaaaaay” I would write “ya~ y!” you see? I don’t know, it’s just my thing :P OK~ so another pop quiz! What does this mean in English? :D “Sachiko sama wa bijin desu.” All you need to know is what “bijin” means right? :D |
hmm… that’s hard lol. =0 |
daaaang that was hard for me to find on the internet!! I tried to find a free translator, but the ones I tried only translate Japanese symbols. So I just did a random search for “wa bijin desu” and ta da!! LoL So I guess it means “Sachiko is beautiful” |
ok, “Sachiko is beautiful”. hey, Sachiko-sensei, can you teach me the basics of Nihon go if you have time? |
I’m a big fan of stretching my text to express myself! LoL Like, OMG duuuuuude! ;) |
AWWWW you guys are soooo sweet! :D Thanks for the compliment guys~ ! No, I’m just joking, hee heee. Yup, you both get an A++! It means “Sachiko is beautiful!” which wasn’t too hard to figure out right? :D Heee heee! Yeah I love stretching stuff, I write like that in japanese too :P Like こんにちは〜お元気〜?meaning Hi~ how are you~ ? :D Yeah, sure I can teach you some Japanese Kon-kun, maybe choose a topic you like or something. Like I learned English by watching “Friends” on TV :P They had reruns over and over so I finally started to get what they were saying! I’m not so good with teaching basics though, cause I don’t know myself how Japanese really works, there are so many exceptions :P |
^ _ ^ my bro found a kool program where i can learn subjects like animals… that’s all i looked at lol. he just got it today. he wants to learn German. so far i memorized is: kuma=bear, tori=bird, tyou=butterfly, ushi=cow, shika=deer… that’s pretty much it =) |
