The new MySpace Profile Editor

Several folks have told us that MySpace is copying CoolChaser with their updated Profile Editor! What do you think?

What features do you like in their Editor that you wished were on CoolChaser? What should we avoid copying from them?

1) you should make options where you can put a bg picture on the music player. then it will be easier to make custom music players. and also don’t forget to make an option for different buttons like you can choose different borders. =)

2) you should make an option where you can put different pictures in different boxes (“About Me” box, Comment box, Friends List box).

3) ideas pending… ... ...

Hee hee, Kon, I think Chao meant something like “what is the feature you like on MySpace’s profile editor that we don’t have” :D So for 1) you can’t ask for features that they don’t have! :D

As for 2) Myspace does have that feature but I don’t see how the page will look good with each box having a different image. Do you know somebody who does that elegantly on their profile page? I feel like the page is gonna look crazy with all the different images…

LOL 3) good question! I don’t know either! They just have bunch of tweaks that nobody uses :P Oh we are gonna have a tweak to change the color and the size of the general text on our editor soon though, since quite a lot of people said “I just wanna change the color of my text” – they choose like a white text theme on a white background :P Hope they will like this feature!

i still like [1)] idea. what also should go with it is an option to make the sides look 3D’ish. =)

oh~ you are talking about the theme editor! Yeah we have bunch of options there for tweaks, but I think MySpace copied our layout editor. Yeah it would be fun to have a music player creator on the theme editor, although we will have to merge 2 images just like for the contact table which we dont know how to do :( but we’ll keep that on our list of things to think about :D

MySpace totally copied Coolchaser. Totally!
Just like they made the site the same blue as friendster when they first started. And they made their editor look like real editor when it used to be really popular too. myspace needs to hire some designers that are a little more original!! LoL

The Myspace editor still functions very sloppy on my computer. It looks cut off and incomplete. I feel like I should be able to scroll more…but there is nothing. weird. Oh and I really don’t like that there is no “clear all” button anymore. I found that you can choose “no style” to take the layout off…but you still get the “userstyle” tag in the source code. But I was able to use coolchaser layouts after choosing “no style” so I guess it sort of works….I just don’t like that there is still an extra CSS style sheet linked from my page. I’m sure it’s making it load slower for my browser to have to load so many style sheets.

Sachiko: I think you are right that it would look sloppy to have different pix in each box, but if you want to be a little creative you could put a different bg image that follows the same style of the page for your comment section or something like that to make it stand out a little and the profile a little more interesting to look at. I’ve seen people use a different color before and it looks good if it is still the same style of the rest of the page design. I wouldn’t put a diff pic in every box, but maybe just one section so it stands out a little. That would be a reason to have that option open so you can pick and choose how you want it.

the music player option would still be really cool though.
